Since the 15th of September, Arnold has been a starter only in the match against Villarreal, where he was substituted at the 52-minute mark. He made a token appearance in the El Clásico and was absent from the Madrid Derby. In his last four games, he has been a substitute. Mourinho favors players with superior physical attributes, and Arnold is only deployed when the Portuguese coach deems the team is significantly stronger. This season, he has been a first-choice starter just once on the road. So far this term, Arnold has appeared in seven matches, totaling 344 minutes on the pitch. He is outplayed by Digne, who has participated in three more games and logged nearly 600 minutes on the field.
